Healthy Snacks – Spicy Roasted Chickpeas
Chickpeas are a great source of fibre, so add these onto soups, or salads, or just eat them as a snack. Also known as garbanzo beans, chickpeas contain a variety of vitamins and minerals like iron, folate and manganese.
Ingredients for roasted chickpeas
- 1 tin of chickpeas
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp garam masala
Can try other flavours like chilli if you enjoy the spice or smoked paprika.
Turn on oven onto a medium/low heat (140, gas mark 4).
Rinse and drain the chickpeas, the mix all the ingredients up in a bowl, then place on greaseproof paper on a tray.
Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, stirring once or twice to ensure they are cooking evenly. Remove the roasted chickpeas and eat once cooled.

Chickpeas contain good amounts of fibre and protein, which help you stay fuller for longer and so can be useful in weight management.
They may even help to reduce your appetite when eaten as part of a meal. This study showed that women who ate chickpeas before a meal ate less food overall, and had a better blood glucose response.
