You don’t realise you are going to have to make dinner every single night for 20+ years, and negotiate what everyone likes / wants to eat. It’s often the worst bit of my day cooking! 

Just because I’m a nutritionist doesn’t mean our mealtimes are perfect, or my kids eat a great diet. Does this make me sound like a bad nutritionist? 
I’d love to hear how everyone finds it, either as a parent or also a nutritionist with older kids.

I know food can feel like the enemy sometimes, but I know food can feel like the enemy sometimes, but honestly I see huge improvements in my IBS and SIBO clients when they start to eat a normal amount of food, with more vegetables, whole grains, nuts and fruits. 

🥬 When you’re on a restricted diet for a long time you can become low in key nutrients you need for normal gut functioning like B12, protein, iron and B1. 
🍍 Your immune system needs vitamin C, D,A, zinc, antioxidants to help regulate your gut microbes. 

🫑 Undereating might feel like it solves a short term problem, but it’s hard to break out of the cycle of feeling like everything you eat makes you bloated or causes pain.

If you’re struggling with anxiety or low mood AND If you’re struggling with anxiety or low mood AND your gut issues you’re by no means alone. 
This was a big study - and it showed there is a high correlation between mental health issues and IBS. Of course we already knew that from previous research, but when you see the links so clearly in a huge population study it brings it all home a bit. 

In this research the connection between mood and IBS was strongest in:
women
under 40s
poor sleep
existing health conditions
